This support allowed us to define our needs, with a view to exceeding technological thresholds as part of our modernisation. Especially the digitisation of our production potential. Specifications (CDC), for the acquisition and use of MES, in our Injection workshop, were defined in detail.

More than this, the whole company is gaining in competence using CDCs and project management in general.

The know how is now in place and all we have to do is extend this knowledge to our collaborators.

The program, also makes it possible to exchange with companies of the same “promotion”. These very enriching exchanges allow us to move forward, with continuous improvement, by sharing best practices.

Thanks again to everyone who has been a participant in this program. Not just collaborating companies and other external actors, but also those, in-house, who helped us along the way!!

This is now our 3rd support program and we have no intention to stop here!

Since 2020, we have continually assessed gender equality and we are committed to improving in this area. This assessment is an obligation for business with more than 50 employees. There are 4 criteria which are marked out of 100.
In 2020 our results reached our hoped for objectives. In 2021 our score dipped to 67/100. We immediately took action and our rating has improved – in May 2022 we are up to 92 !

We are committed to improving our rating. Our score in 2023 will be even better.

We recently installed two new digital three dimensional measuring machines in our factory. They are adapted to 4IR industries. METRIOS technology was chosen for its advantages in both quality and productivity.

A STRATEGIC INVESTMENT
Guaranteeing the conformity of manufactured parts – whilst eradicating human error, METRIOS drastically reduces the number of rejects. « A determining factor for a company like ours, which places quality at the centre of its activity» explains managing director, David ASTIC.

METRIOS processes data in record time (a few seconds).
Technology that significantly reduces inspection times (essential when parts have to be measured manually with conventional measuring tools).
Other advantages like reproduction and repetition of measurements during production and insert fitting.
The traceability of measurements is of particular interest in certain applications and the monitoring of critical costs.

At ASTIC, we constantly invest and modernise i.e. in March 2022 we installed a new EDM machine.

A REALLY IMPORTANT INVESTMENT

EDM is a process, where material is removed by means of electrical discharges.
There are many advantages in using this procedure.
This technology can be used on any conductive material regardless of its hardness.
For instance, treated steels, which can lead to breakages in traditional machinery, present no problem with this process.
EDM benefits from high precision, in the order of ± 5 μm and allows for the production of complex shapes that are nigh on impossible to produce through standard machining.

It also produces a completely uniform surface.

At ASTIC, EDM is employed, using copper electrodes, for certain elements of the plastic injection moulds we make. The arrival of the AG40L with its 12-station changer, the latest generation of machine, designed by SODICK – a Japanese company that is the leader in its field – ensures machining in almost half the time.

Performance, quality, reliability, comfort with easy tool handling, these machines include linear drive technology and simplified control mechanisms, which provide a direct link between drive and control.

N.B: Respectful of the environment, SODICKs range of products, use energy-saving designs and technology. That reduce average energy consumption by up to 60%. This is one of the many reasons we adopted it.

Initiated in September 2021, as part of a collective action originally conceived of by IPC (Innovation Plasturgie Composites), the assessment of our company’s carbon footprint will continue until the end of summer 2022. The results and the actions to be taken in order to limit our greenhouse gases should be known by the end of the year.

ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT

A carbon footprint assessment is obligatory for all businesses of over 500 employees or local authorities with over 250 officers. With our 70 workers ASTIC does not enter into these categories, we have signed up to this initiative to demonstrate a proactive commitment to improving our environment as of now!

To have an all around view, emissions are assessed in 3 segments.
The first concerns the greenhouse gases emitted directly by the company (heating the premises, emissions linked to vehicles owned by the company, etc.).
The second groups together indirect emissions. These are emissions produced during manufacturing.
The third is all other indirect emissions such as: purchasing of merchandise and raw materials, paid for services, travel from home to work, use of sold products etc…

Thus, over a whole year, all our various activities will be evaluated, at every level. This assessment will lead to the development of a plan which will prioritise those areas that need addressing the most. “For us, the challenge is both individual and collective, in response to the needs of the sector” explains Alexandra ASTIC, head of the QHSE System Service – EHS, communication and HR.

This assessment has a double objective. Firstly collective: such as pooling data, from companies signed up to the group action, which will make it possible to generate a common business database specific to the plastics industry. Secondly individual: our company will benefit, from this group action, through the acquisition of data, modelling of our carbon footprint and to finally interpret the results, in order to carry out a coherent plan to reduce our own carbon footprint.

« We want to take a virtuous approach, meeting the environmental requirements of our clients, whilst encouraging our suppliers to follow the same path. We firmly believe that, through social responsibility, our company has a role to play, in achieving carbon neutrality, prior to 2050, as specified in the Paris Agreement » concludes Alexandra ASTIC.
